Classes are back in session at Clemson University and the Clemson University Triathlon Team has wasted no time in getting back to training and recruiting. The team had an excellent Organization Fair and Recreation Fest to get new interest in the club.

Earlier this month the team went to the Mountain Lakes Sprint Triathlon in Guntersville AL. The Tigers had a strong showing lead by Brady Thomas who finished fourth for the collegiates. Yesterday the team traveled to Huntsville AL for the Rocketman Triathlon. Clemson had seven competitors including three who had never raced for Clemson before. In typical fashion, the Clemson University Triathlon Team absolutely suffocated the competition. Both the men's and women's teams won. Kristen Thomas placed 2nd overall for the women and 1st for the collegiate women, and had the fastest run split for collegiate women. PhD student and new member Justin Arnosky immediately did work on the rest of the SECTC with his 2nd place collegiate finish, 5th overall, PR, that included the fastest collegiate swim time and transition times. Lauren Staab finished 2nd for collegiate women and also had the fastest swim and transition times. Also scoring points for the Tri Tigers were Nick Sykes and new members Michael Mauhar and Ben Murphy.

And a big congratulations to Clemson Alumni Jon Black and Sharon Snyder who finished Ironman Louisville on 29 Aug. 2010. In Clemson Tri Team apparel, the two swam 2.4 miles, biked 112, and ran 26.2. Now they get to brag for the rest of their lives. Congratulations to both of them on their amazing accomplishment.

Clemson University Triathletes have been making their presence felt like never before this summer. 

Congratulations to Lauren Goss for qualifying for U23 Worlds! Lauren was the first American across the line in the Coteau-du-Lac ITU Pan American Cup in her first ITU race. Her high finish guarantees that she will be one of only four American women representing the USA at U23 Worlds this September.

Lauren isn't the only Tiger representing well so far this summer. Numerous team members have been placing highly this summer at races including the Rock 'N Rollman Half and Sprint, West Point Lake Triathlon, The Festival of Flowers, Caine Halter YMCA Sprint, Lake Murray Triathlon, and Tri the Midlands, to name a few. Check out the series standings of the Go Tri Sports SC Triathlon Series where several Tri Tigers are placed highly. 

Look for Clemson Triathlon Team members at races including Chattanooga Waterfront and Mountain Lakes before they start the fall collegiate campaign.

 The Clemson Triathlon Team kicked off the summer in the best way possible- racing! Six members of the team were racing at the Clemson Triathlon. They had a strong showing, including Trey Nash winning the collegiate division, Jaclyn Baron placing second in the collegiate division, and Lauren Staab winning the 20-24 age group. And thanks to alumni and Triathlon Club founder, Jeremey Davis of Set Up Events for putting on another fantastic race. 

 Also, racing Ironman 70.3 Florida, Lauren Goss used a 1:40:43 half marathon to win her age group. Congratulations Lauren on being the first Tri Tiger to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater!

After a very busy spring, the Clemson Tri Team has a few weeks to recover before the new season gets underway at Memphis in May.  The biggest news for the Tigers this past semester was the addition of Specialized as a primary sponsor.  Check out the Tigers' newest sponsor in the sponsors section!

The Tiger Triathlon Team also put on its biggest fundraising event, the Easter Bunny Run Half Marathon and 5K!  The event was a huge success with over 300 participants total.  For more information concerning the Tigers' biggest fundraising even, please check out the website www.easterbunnyrun.com!

The Clemson Tri Team also competed in two events this past semester, Natchez Trace Triathlon and USAT Collegiate National Championships!  At the Natchez Trace Triathlon in Tennessee, rain and cold weather converted the triathlon to a duathlon.  It was not the tri team's day as a series of events would see the Tigers finish 5th as a team in the Male division, 1st in the Female divison and 3rd in the Coed division.  However, Lauren Goss had a great collegiate debut as she won the Female Collegiate Division!

A month later, the Tigers returned to Lubbock, TX for the 2010 edition of USAT's Collegiate National Championships.  Once again, weather was the big story as strong winds and cold conditions cut the swim in half and made biking nearly impossible.  The Tri Team had a good showing though and improved upon last year's results.  In the Male Team division, the Tri team placed 31st.  In the Female Division, an 11th place finished was earned with Lauren Goss placing 3rd overall!!!  As a complete team in the Coed Division the Tigers continued to rise in the standings earning a 21st place as a Team!!  Congratulations to Lauren Goss for Clemson's first ever podium finish at Nationals and to the entire team for a terrific season! In the final conference standings the Tri Team grabbed a 3rd place finish in the Male Team Competition and TWO CONFERENCE TITLES in the Female and Coed Team Competitions!  Congratulations to Taylor Shoulders who was the overall Conference Champion!

On October 17th, the Tiger Triathlon Team was in McCormick, SC for the SECTC Championship Race.  The Tigers had another great showing on what is considered to be the toughest course on the schedule.  Individually, Lightsey Laffitte finished 2nd and Kristen Thomas finished 3rd overall in the Collegiate Female Division.  The Female Team finished 1st while the guys team came in 3rd overall.  The outstanding showing by both teams landed the Co-ed Team 1st overall in what was a highly competitive field.  The Tri-Tigers enter a long break, as racing doesn't resume until March, when the Tri-Tigers will be heading to Tennessee for the Natchez Trace Sprint Triathlon.

The Tigers were in Pine Mountain, GA this weekend for the Callaway Gardens Triathlon and the 16 member team showed its depth by placing 4 girls and 4 guys in the top 10 of their respective divisions.  On the guy's side, Taylor Shoulders and James Mulski finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.  While the girl's had Kristen Thomas finish 3rd overall on a broken toe.  The team also swept each category winning the Male, Female and Co-ed titles.  Congratulations to the Tiger Triathlon Team on a great weekend in Georgia.

The team competed in the first Collegiate race of the season, the Mountain Lakes Triathlon held in Guntersville, AL.  Congratulations to the girls team for their FIRST PLACE win and Kristen Thomas on finishing second overall in the girls race!
